Michael and I were out at a local bar. Michael was signing a new performance deal. After business was done we began talking about the different patrons. We always enjoyed discussing personality traits, making up short stories based on observations of the people.
We noticed a young woman sitting quietly at the end of the bar. She seemed to have her defenses up – not openly approachable. We also observed a young man who didn’t quite fit into the rather rowdy bar environment. He was watching her closely – we imagined he was trying to find a way, and the nerve, to strike up a conversation.
We decided his best chance might be a “soft” approach. And from that, we spun a tale of the two finding each other in a potential passionate interlude. Something more than simply a one night stand. Softly through the night.
This song highlights Michael’s ability to evoke emotions through melody. And, I am very pleased with my lyrics that have multiple meanings and a rich passionate undertone.
